Position Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator, Recreation, this position is responsible for the planning, administration, program delivery and supervision of the After School Club program and ensures all activities are safe, fun and age-appropriate.

 The successful candidate must be available to work 24 hours per week; 1:15 – 6:15 pm daily and evenings or weekends as required for staff training, excluding PA Days, March Break, holiday break (December) and summer as this position follows the school calendar and resumes the last two weeks of August annually.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements the general format of the program including; daily activities, nutrition, themes, visitors, transportation, leader and group allocations, participant identification and safety procedures, following key program elements and outcomes outlined by Ministry
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, on-boarding, scheduling, evaluation and payroll of After School Club staff
  • Maintain a safe, clean program area including proper usage and storage of equipment and proper Food Handling and Safety standards
  • Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff, school boards and transportation staff, parents/guardians and participants, reporting all concerns and incidents to supervisor
  • Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks. Report incident/concerns/actions or site damage to supervisor
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement.
  • Maintains program records, daily and/or session checklists, attendance, stats collection, including input of program statistics into Ministry website (monthly)
  • Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure policies and procedures are communicated, quality standards are maintained and to solicit feedback from staff
  • Leads related programs when required
  • Oversee all aspects of the program setting – opening/closing, set–up/takedown, inventory of program supplies/equipment and maintain program supplies/equipment
  • Completes Quest 2 Evaluations as necessary
  • Responsible for all administrative duties related to the position; complete session summaries, inventory forms, equipment lists, parent information letters, program evaluations, etc.
  • Ensure program expenses are in-line with the program budget
  • Complies with and assumes appropriate supervisory responsibility for compliance with all health and safety practices of the Division in accordance with standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives

 

Education and Experience 

  • Attending or completion of post-secondary education in early childhood education, child and youth care, education, recreation and leisure services, social work, psychology, sociology or kinesiology with a focus/experience working with children and youth. 
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in sport or recreational programs
  • Experience working with children with exceptionalities an asset
  • Supervisory and programming experience an asset
  • Safe Food Handling Certification required
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) or equivalent is an asset
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development - PCHD
  • HIGH FIVE® Quest 1 & 2 Certification preferred
  • Experience working in Recreation Management Software (preferred)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening

 

Hourly Rate: $24.56
