Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation – Sport, this part-time position is responsible for administering entry guidelines, dealing with customer concerns and providing a safe and enjoyable environment to skating program participants.  Successful candidates must be able to work variable hours including evenings and weekends.

 

Major Job Responsibilities Include

  • Implement and regularly monitor the entry procedure for skating programs
  • Skate among participants and politely enforce the established rules and guidelines governing the safety and conduct of participants
  • Organize pick-up games and activities where applicable (i.e. shinny) and ensure fairness and equal playing time to all participants
  • Maintain and submit attendance records
  • Maintain communication with the Customer Service Desk in the event of an emergency
  • Maintain a safe and clean program area including the proper usage and storage of equipment
  • Ensure the safety and well being of all program participants; evaluate situations for potential safety risks and proactively take action to address such risks
  • Report any accidents, incidents, concerns or site damage to the Supervisor, Recreation
  • Submit all required forms ensuring accuracy and completeness of information to immediate supervisor
  • Establish positive relationships, clear communication channels and work cooperatively with all staff and participants
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and allocated program times
  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Perform all other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives

 

Education and Experience

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age
  • Completion of Secondary School is considered an asset
  • Strong skating skills; own skates and CSA approved helmet which must be worn at all time while on the ice surface
  • Hockey experience is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Experience working with children in a recreational setting and working with persons with disabilities is considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”
  • Willing and able to obtain a High Five Certification (Principles of Healthy Child Development)
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment

 

Hourly Rate: $11.98
