Position Summary:

The Community Services Department is currently accepting applications for the part-time position of Drop-In Monitor – Sports or Skating. Reporting to the, Coordinator, Recreation, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring all drop-in sports participants experience a safe and enjoyable environment when attending a Town of Milton drop-in sports program.  This role ensures adherence to entry guidelines, fair play and anticipates and reacts to customer concerns. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a welcoming, respectful and safe environment for all participants
  • Ensure all participants have paid and meet entry requirements, this may include wearing wristbands, being of a specific age, etc.
  • Understand and ensure compliance of all established rules and guidelines governing the safety and conduct of participants
  • Organize pick-up games and activities (where applicable) and ensure fairness and equal playing time for all participants
  • Provide guidance and oversight to volunteers
  • Establish positive relationships and clear communication channels with all staff and participants
  • Maintain a safe and clean facility, including proper usage and storage of equipment.  Communicate any deficiencies with Supervisor
  • Evaluate situations for potential risks and proactively take action to address such risks.  Communicate any action and/or concerns to Supervisor
  • Maintain communication with the Customer Service Desk to provide relevant program updates and to request support in the event of an emergency
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and handle sensitive situations with mature judgement
  • Provide suggestions to Supervisor on ways to enhance the customer experience
  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Maintain and submit attendance records and/or drop-in stats
  • Report any incidents, concerns or site damage to Supervisor
  • Submit required forms (including payroll)
  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions
  • Perform other duties in accordance with department objectives

 

Qualifications:

  • Attending or completion of post-secondary education in Recreation & Leisure or a related field is an asset
  • Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (or willing to obtain)
  • HIGH FIVE® Quest 2 an asset is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of the rules of one of: basketball, soccer, volleyball, floor hockey or a racquet sport (Sports)
  • Competent skating ability (Skating)
  • Experience playing (at an organized level) or officiating two or more of: basketball, soccer, volleyball, floor hockey or a racquet sport (Sports) is preferred
  • Experience playing (at an organized level) or officiating hockey (Skating) is preferred
  • Previous supervision of program participants (children, youth or adults) in a recreational environment is preferred
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
