Interested in being a School Crossing Guard?

The Town of Milton is looking for reliable and responsible individuals who interact well with children and are committed to their safety to fill the position of Crossing Guard. Our Crossing Guards are wonderful citizens who are responsible for safely crossing our children at intersections near schools in the Town of Milton. This is a paid part time position.

 

What do Crossing Guards do?

  • Create safe gaps in traffic to enable children and others to cross safely
  • Report license plate numbers of cars driving in an unsafe manner, or who fail to stop and obey the Crossing Guard
  • Report children who fail to listen to the direction of the Crossing Guard and who are acting in an unsafe manner

 

How do I become a Crossing Guard?

Applicants must successfully pass a police security check prior to employment and must be capable of standing outside for long periods in all weather conditions. Crossing Guards must be 18 years of age or older. No experience is necessary as all training is provided. Crossing Guards must be pleasant, courteous and helpful towards all members of the public at all times. Applicants must be available to work Monday to Friday during the school year and are paid a minimum of 3 hours for each day worked. All weekends and school holidays are off. Successful candidates must also comply with health & safety practices as it relates to the Crossing Guard position, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Parents, grandparents, retirees, neighbours and friends all make great Crossing Guards.

 

Hourly Rate: $16.49 (Rate as of September 1, 2022. Paid a minimum of 3 hours for each day worked.)
