The Town of Milton’s Community Services Department is currently accepting applications for the contract position of Seasonal Fleet Mechanic.  The position start date is as soon as possible with an end date of May 31, 2024.

 

Major Job Responsibilities: 

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to all vehicles in the Operations division, including off-road equipment and small equipment
  • Maintain accurate documentation of vehicle work orders, daily time sheets and other related documents as required
  • Order parts from vendors for repairs and servicing and assists in monitoring parts inventories
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop area
  • Comply with all Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Regulations and performs annual inspections
  • Tend to vehicles needing repair in outdoor field service locations as required
  • Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives

 

Education and Experience

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education and experience
  • Working experience in the repairs and maintenance of hydraulics, electronics and electrical systems
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills are required
  • Experience with vehicle diagnostic equipment

 

Certifications and Designations

  • Valid 310T Truck and Coach Mechanic Certificate
  • Valid 310S Autoservice Technician Certificate is considered an asset
  • Possess a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license Class D license with a Z endorsement or the willingness to acquire a DZ license would be an asset
  • The successful candidate must have clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits. A recent driver’s abstract dated within 30 days will be required if selected for an interview. Persons with 4 or more demerit points need not apply

 Additional Job Skills

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to use a desktop computer to access the Fleet Maintenance Program
  • Ability to concentrate and work under pressure in a fast paced environment and adapt work priorities accordingly with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of Public Works activities on a daily basis including lifting 35 kilogram weight consistently
  • Must be willing and able to work on all types of equipment such as weed trimmers, lawn mowers, tandem snowplows, graders, loaders and other equipment associated with municipalities

Hourly Rate:  $35.62
